Post
Graduate Program
in Railway Engineering
The Co-operative Research Centre for Railway Engineering and Technologies
(Rail CRC) has developed a post graduate program in Railway Signalling.IRSE
members played a major role in the development of the program content.
The program has been developed to fill a need for competent railway
signalling practitioners by providing a structured, broadly based, signal
engineering course for recent entrants into the signalling profession.
The program is being delivered by Central Queensland University with
annual
intakes commencing with a two day induction during February.
The program has been running since 2004. Key features of this program
are:
-
Award of Graduate Diploma after two years
-
Award of Graduate Certificate after one year
-
Distance learning with a two day face to face induction
-
Emphasis on application of theory to local practice
-
Emphasis on learning through projects and co-operative learning
teams
-
Continuous assessment
-
Supported by the IRSE
-
Annual Intake Requires support by employer and access to an industry
mentor
Latest Information-Diploma accepted for IRSE Membership
As most in the signalling industry will be aware, the IRSE Australasian
section has invested a lot of effort in developing and supporting the
Graduate Diploma in Signalling, run by the Central Queensland University.
As part of that initiative, we have been working with the IRSE Council
in the UK to get the diploma accepted as the basis of an application
for full corporate membership of the IRSE, in the same way that passing
the IRSE examinations are accepted. The IRSE Aus committee continues
to support the IRSE exam for those who may find it more suited to their
needs but we believe that the CQU Diploma warrants an equivalent status.
We are therefore delighted to report that at its meeting of the 29th
March 2006, the Council resolved to accept a Pass grade in the CQU course
as a suitable equivalent to passing the IRSE exam.
We are absolutely delighted with this decision as it is the result
of considerable effort to formally demonstrate the credentials of the
Diploma course. We hope that this decision will further encourage students
to enrol in the Diploma and to continue their professional development
through participating in IRSE activities as corporate members.

Railway Telecommunications Course
The highley successful Post Graduate Program in Railway Signalling has
now been expanded to include a course in Railway Telecommunications.
Railway Telecommunictions is being offered in Term 3 of 2007 (Commencing
