Rules for IRSE Australasia Scholarship

IRSE Australasia offers a scholarship for the railway signalling and telecommunications course offered by Central Queensland University.  The scholarship is available to a young engineer from an ASEAN country (Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam).

Courses

Applications will be accepted for either of the two distance education Railway Signalling  & Telecommunications programs offered by CQU:
•  Graduate Diploma of Railway Signalling & Telecommunications program over 6 terms which can be completed in a minimum of 2 years.
•  Graduate Certificate of Railway Signalling & Telecommunications program over 3 terms which can be completed in a minimum of 1 year.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must be less than 30 years of age and be qualified with a Bachelor of Electrical/Electronic Engineering degree Other engineering degrees will be considered.

The candidate must be currently employed in the railway signalling or communications industry in an ASEAN country by a recognised employer and have completed at least 1 year of work experience in the appropriate field.

In addition, the candidate's employer must be agreeable to allowing time for study and providing a work-based course mentor available for the duration of the program.

Candidates must also be selected by IRSE based on their personal aptitude, competency  and motivation by completing an on-line test.

Scholarship Funding

The candidates eligible for the scholarship of Graduate Certificate of Railway Signalling program will receive a scholarship which covers the tuition fees for the total three terms that can be completed in a minimum of 1 year.

The candidates eligible for the scholarship of Graduate Diploma of Railway Signalling program will receive a scholarship which covers the tuition fees for the total six terms that can be completed in a minimum of 2 years.

The scholarship funding will not cover any other fee associated with the course such as the provision of textbooks, reference materials.

Course Visits to Australia

The candidate will have to visit Australia twice as per the requirement of the program.  It is mandatory for the candidate to participate in the Induction Program which is held at Sydney before the commencement of the course for duration of two days. It is also mandatory for the candidate to present his/her project findings at the CQU Sydney International Campus during the last month of course completion.

Additional Allowance

IRSE shall provide the travel, accommodation and subsistence allowance for the candidate. IRSE shall cover the actual costs incurred up to the equivalent of an economy air fare or, where appropriate, a concession fare.

Scholarship Tenure

The duration of the scholarship shall not exceed one year for the Graduate Certificate in Railway Signalling program and shall not exceed two years for the Graduate Diploma in Railway Signalling program.

Conditions of Funding

•  The candidate will have to obtain a satisfactory grade in each term in order to continually avail themselves of the scholarship for the duration of the program.
•  The candidate shall not discontinue the opted course, if so, he/she may have to repay the scholarship funding so far expended. An exception may be granted for unforeseeable situations as approved by IRSE.

Access to Course Material

Once successful in the scholarship program, the candidate will be provided with a Student ID with which he/she can access the Central Queensland University website for all course related information.

The candidate will receive the hard copy of the course material at the intended date via post and he/she can also have access to the soft copies of the course materials from the Central Queensland University website.
