IRSE Australasia is very active in recruiting new members to the IRSE UK. Membership of the IRSE UK is at present a requirement for membership of IRSE Australasia.

To become a member you must have the support of two existing members of the IRSE for your membership application. The existing members will sponsor your application and will verify that the information you supply is correct and complete. The easiest way to obtain the assistance of a sponsor is to ask in your workplace or to attend a local meeting of the IRSE and ask there. If that is not practical, please contact the Secretary by email and we will help you find sponsors.

Getting Started

• Check the IRSE UK web site for application forms and guidelines.

• Please be careful to complete all details on the form accurately. If you are giving details of relevant experience, please describe the information in sufficient detail for the membership committee (a group of UK engineers) to be able to assess whether your experience meets the requirements. You can make their job easier by checking against the evaluation criteria and giving details or responsibility, rather than just a position title. Please minimise the number of abbreviations and acronyms as they may not be known outside your organisation.

• Discuss your completed form with your sponsors. Add any information that they think appropriate and ask them to assess whether the grade you have selected is appropriate.

Review by Sponsors

Each of the sponsors (proposers) must check the following:

• Is the information supplied in all sections correct?
• Is the membership level selected appropriate?
• Can the experience claimed be supported?
• Have you seen the original qualification documents?
• If a Student application, check employment in the industry (Section E).

Any questions about your experience and qualifications will be directed initially to your sponsors as they are taking responsibility for the accuracy of your application. There is no other screening of applications in Australia.

Submitting the Application

• Make sure you and your sponsors have signed the form.
• Complete the checklist on the form.
• Send the form directly to the IRSE UK office (as that is the organisation you are joining)
• Send a copy of the first page of the form to the IRSE Australasia secretary along with your application for IRSE Australasia membership.
